Successful Dissemination Event in Rijeka: Encouraging Young Swimmers through the Erasmus+ Project SWIM – Swim Without Fear

On June 27, 2024, the Erasmus+ project SWIM – Swim Without Fear took another successful step in promoting water safety and swimming confidence among children in Rijeka, Croatia. This time, Vere Montis team visited the Kindergarten “Planet mašte,” where we engaged with the young learners in a fun and educational event aimed at supporting their first steps toward swimming.

A Day at Kindergarden “Planet mašte”

The event was designed to be both informative and enjoyable. Twenty children at Kindergarten “Planet mašte” participated, each receiving a specially designed guide for parents. This guide offers valuable tips and strategies on how to support their children as they begin to learn swimming. It serves as a crucial resource, providing parents with the knowledge they need to help their children overcome any fears associated with swimming and to ensure their safety in and around water.

Engaging Activities and Discussions

Together with the kindergarten teachers, we engaged the children in interactive discussions about swimming. These discussions were carefully crafted to address common fears associated with swimming in a gentle and playful manner. We used stories, games, and visual aids to help the children understand that swimming can be a fun and safe activity.

The children were eager to participate, sharing their thoughts and experiences related to swimming. Through these conversations, we emphasized the importance of water safety and the enjoyment that comes from being able to swim confidently.

The Role of Parents and Teachers

The guide for parents distributed during the event serves as a bridge between the educational efforts at kindergarten and the home environment. It empowers parents with practical advice on how to create a supportive atmosphere that encourages children to embrace swimming. By involving both parents and teachers in this initiative, we ensure a cohesive approach to overcoming the fear of swimming.

Sustainability Through Ongoing Events

To ensure the sustainability of the project, we are excited to announce that there will be another event during the upcoming Sea Day at Kindergarten “Planet mašte.” The guide will be distributed to any children who missed today’s event, ensuring all families have access to this valuable resource. Sea Day will be filled with fun activities related to water safety and swimming, reinforcing the lessons learned and providing additional opportunities for children to engage with water in a safe and supportive environment.
